Co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha will run both the home and mobile devices units, and he has already talked about more tightly integrating the two disparate businesses. Jha takes over both businesses effective immediately.

"Sanjay is a very hands-on guy; he's going to put his own stamp on the business," said William Choi, an analyst at Jefferies & Co.

Moloney, who was well respected within the company, probably saw the departure as inevitable. There was a lot of uncertainty over his division and where it would ultimately end up. An executive who had worked with Motorola for a decade, he likely didn't fit into Jha's vision of his company's new direction, industry observers say.

The company has lost a number of key executives since stumbling a few years ago. Ron Garriques, who oversaw the mobile-devices unit and caught a lot of the heat for failing to find a follow-up to the hit Razr ultra-slim phone, went to Dell Inc. (DELL) and helped usher the new Mini smartphone. Technology chief Padmasree Warrior left the company for a similar position at Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO).

Others include Garriques' successor, Stu Reed, as well as Chief Marketing Officer Kenneth Keller and consumer products executive Rob Shaddock.

Jha will have his hands full with turning around both divisions. The cable set-top box business continues to struggle amid weak consumer spending and the reluctance of television-service providers to upgrade their equipment.  CarePartners gets $300K for electronic records

ASHEVILLE — CarePartners Health Services will get $300,000 in federal appropriations that will go toward integrating all home-based services with a mobile electronic record.

The funding was requested by Rep. Heath Shuler, D-Waynesville, during the FY 2010 appropriations process. It was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill that was passed and signed into law in December.

CarePartners will be able to purchase a new software program that allows staff to access patient information remotely while in a patient's home. The software will be used in CarePartners hospice, home health and private duty areas.

The software will link CarePartners to all hospitals in Western North Carolina through Data Link. The WNC Data Link system connects electronic medical records from hospitals across the region through a secured Internet connection, allowing doctors to access a patient's information at the click of a mouse.
